The United States Embassy will fund the following two stages of the project to restore the Dormition of the Mother of God Church in Causeni, and another project to preserve a National Library collection of old and rare books. This was announced by Ambassador James Pettit during a meeting with Education and Culture Minister Monica Babuc.

The amounts to be offered are yet to be announced.

The Dormition Church in Causeni is a national heritage landmark that after restoration is expected to become a tourist attraction. The first stage focused on preserving the building and re-emphasizing its role as an architectural monument.

The book collection in question is said to be a very unique piece of national heritage.

Minister Monica Babuc expressed her gratitude to the U.S. ambassador, inviting the Embassy to participate in other cultural projects as well. The officials also discussed details of the support in preserving our cultural heritage to be offered by the U.S. Government’s Smithsonian Institution.
