The United States Embassy in Moldova said in a statement it will provide $50,000 worth of food, water and other supplies to help citizens of Moldova recover from floods. The assistance will be offered as a grant to a local NGOs, which will procure and distribute emergency materials and relief commodities. The Embassy says the assistance follows an appeal for disaster relief made on July 28 by the Moldovan Prime Minister's office. The Embassy will work with the Moldovan government to determine the most critical needs. As a result of the heavy rains throughout Moldova and Ukraine since July 25, water levels on both the Prut and the Nistru Rivers have reached their highest level in 39 years.
