More than 20 photos showing events from the time of the Holocaust were displayed at an exhibition entitled “Never”, dedicated to the International Holocaust Remembrance Day. The exhibit was opened by the U.S. Embassy on January 27, IPN reports.
Attending the opening of the exhibit, U.S. Ambassador James Pettit underlined the importance for the young generation to know the history of Holocaust so as to avoid such tragic events, saying those who do not know the history are condemned to repeat it.
The diplomat spoke about the large number of victims of the Holocaust in our area. He noted that 19,000 Jews died in Dubasari alone during the Holocaust.
Ten of the 24 photos exhibited at the Moldova Free International University represent moments of the Holocaust in Bessarabia and Transnistria.
U.S. Embassy Assistant Public Affairs Officer Kate Bartlett has told IPN that the display of photographs was made possible by the Chisinau Jewish Center “Kedem” and the Washington-based Smithsonian Institute.
The exhibition will continue until January 29.
