The U.S. Embassy in Moldova has announced a new Democracy Grants Program intended for not-for-profit organizations (NGOs, CSOs, Think-Tanks) whose goal is to contribute to the development of democracy and civil society in Moldova, IPN reports.
According to a press release of the Embassy, the Democracy Grants Program provides seed money for projects that help develop the capacity and sustainability of non-governmental organizations in Moldova. This includes, but is not limited to, projects targeting the development of open, democratic processes at the local level, stimulation of citizens’ participation in decision making, promoting civic education and strengthening democratic institutions and independent media in Moldova.
The Program cannot fund: humanitarian or charitable activities, including direct social services to populations; fundraising campaigns; personal career development, political or partisan activities, scientific research; individual trips abroad, trade activities, and health projects.
Eligible size of grants is US$5,000 to US$24,000, while the eligible time period is 6 to 12 months. The deadline for applications is December 1, 2014, 6pm. More information can be found on http://moldova.usembassy.gov/democracy-grants.html.
