The U.S. Department of State has donated a substantial quantity of medical equipment and supplies valued at $20 million to medical facilities in the Republic of Moldova, within the framework of the Operation Provide Hope (OPH) Project, the U.S. Embassy in Moldova said in a press release. The humanitarian assistance is loaded in trucks and transported to Moldova from the Germany-based U.S. Army Medical Material Center Europe (USAMMCE). The first of 100 trucks have arrived in Moldova on July 23. The project will continue through September. The donation includes monitoring equipment for intensive care, X-ray equipment, film processing technology, anesthesia machines, and sterilization equipment, as well as bandages, linens, syringes, and other consumables. The recipients of the donation are medical establishments in the cities of Balti, Cahul, Chisinau and Tiraspol. OPH team members will install the donated equipment and train Moldovan medical workers how to use and maintain it. This is the third and the biggest OPH project for Moldova. The first two, in 1994 and 2000, also provided medical equipment and supplies.
