The United States has all the occasions for contributing to ensuring the information security of Moldova by making investments in the development of the independent media outlets and by the constant political position of Washington, U.S. Senator John McCain said in a meeting with the leader of the Liberal Democratic Party (PLDM) Vlad Filat, who is paying a visit to the U.S., IPN reports, quoting a communiqué of the party.
“The United States can offer expertise and technology for Moldova to go on. This year, Moldova will make not only a political choice, but also a geopolitical one. The U.S. will help Moldova to resist pressure, propaganda and the existent security risks,” stated John McCain.
The leader of the PLDM reiterated the necessity of continuing the Compact Program of the Millennium Challenge Corporation, saying a new such program aimed at ensuring the energy independence and building the necessary infrastructure is vital for Moldova.
Within the political tour in the U.S., Vlad Filat also had a meeting with Democratic Senator Bob Mendez, who heads the United States Senate Committee on Foreign Relations. The discussions centered on such major problems as Moldova’s European integration, energy security and stability in the region.
“Though we are in an area marked by instability, given the tense situation in the neighboring country, the Pro-European Coalition of Moldova does its utmost to maintain a constructive dialogue with all the foreign partners and to reach national consensus with all the categories of people, including the ethnic groups,” stated Vlad Filat.
For his part, Bob Mendez assured that Washington will look for possibilities to support Moldova in this respect. The Senate and the Department of State will offer all the political support needed to exclude any pressure and blackmail in this important period, when Moldova is to sign the Association Agreement with the EU.
