U.S. Ambassador meets with Prime Minister

The U.S. Ambassador to Moldova James D. Pettit, in his first meeting with Prime Minister Chiril Gaburici, said the United States will continue to support Moldova, IPN reports.

According to the Government’s press service, the two officials discussed such issues as the economic cooperation, implementation of joint projects in different fields, the Transnistrian issue and regional security. The Premier enumerated the new Government’s priorities, such as the continuation on the path of European integration, fulfillment of the commitments made to national and foreign development partners, including the doing of the justice reform and ensuring of sustainable economic growth.

For his part, the U.S. diplomat said the visit to Chisinau by U.S. Deputy Secretary of State Antony J. Blinken on March 3 shows that the United States supports Moldova and wants to contribute to the democratic transformations in the country. “We will continue to assist Moldova in promoting reforms and in the modernization processes in the context of the European integration,” he stated.

The sides pleaded for deepening cooperation within the Moldova – U.S. Strategic Dialogue launched in Washington last March and for extending cooperation in different areas of activity.
