The interim mayor, Vasile Ursu, does not rule out the fact that he could run for general mayor of Chisinau “if he doesn’t despair” until the elections. During the “The Hour of Press”, recently organized by the interim mayor so that mass-media representatives are better informed on the activities of the public administration, Vasile Ursu refuted the mass-media allegations that these meetings are an electoral trick, and assured that his only concern are the residents of Chisinau, which must be informed “without journalist’s opinion”. About the possible participation in the elections, Ursu declared that he will consider running for mayor, as there is still time to think until February. “One day I might wake up and decide I don’t want to run”, he stated. At the same time, Ursu assured the journalists that he will run as an independent candidate, will not enter any party, but will allow every political party to support him in the elections. He was very pleased with the special relations with the Republic of Moldova Government, which visits the City Hall every 3 month in order to discuss activity plans. Last year the central authorities have allocated Chisinau approx. MDL 200 million from the state budget. During this year, another MLD 70 million was offered for the roadworks, and MDL 50 million for the purchase of snow ploughs. Additional works were done with a cost of MDL 70 million, which are to be allocated in the future. According to Ursu, previously, “because of the policy of the old City Hall management, there wasn’t a fruitful collaboration with the government”, but now “good relations are established and Chisinau’s problems are being solved”. Ursu declared that during the recent visit of Vladimir Voronin to the City Hall the “program for 2007 was arranged”. This year, besides the municipal council, Chisinau profied from MDL 190 million, allocated from the state budget, which makes up a quarter of the 2006 municipal budget.
