Urban young women are more vulnerable to breast diseases

Urban women in the 25-40 age group are the most likely to develop breast diseases, show the results of the investigations performed by the Social Mission Diaconia as part of a mobile diagnosis project. The Mission said in a press release cited by Info-Prim Neo that the investigations conducted in the period May 2006-October 2007 covered over 3,000 persons from 56 localities of Moldova, including Chisinau City. The highest incidence rate of hyperplasia (mastopathy, breast cancer) was registered in urban areas. Of the total number of investigated women, about 30% (more than 1,250 women) showed signs of breast diseases. Dr. Dorel Dumbraveanu, specialist in thermography for Diaconia, says the most frequent causes giving rise to breast diseases are the use of contraceptive pills without consulting a doctor, the low frequency of visits to the doctor, the lack of sexual education, the lack of A and E vitamins. Every investigated woman, the doctor says, is told to consult a district doctor in order to prevent an eventual hyperplasia, and when there is a risk of a breast disease, she has to consult a mammary specialist or a gynaecologist to receive medical care. The Mobile Diagnosis Project is held nationwide and aims to diagnosticate breast pathologies in early stages. During the diagnosis, doctors use a thermograph, which measures the temperature of the body, without having a negative influence on it. Today breast cancer ranks first among the most widespread cancerous diseases in Moldova (about 13% of the total number of cancerous tumours).
