The courtyard of the National Museum of Romanian Literature in Chisinau has become more practical. Ten urban sculptures were set up there and can serve as furniture for visitors. There are benches and outdoor sculptures, made of wood, stone and metal. They were executed by famous sculptors from Moldova within the Urban Sculpture Camp during two months. The works were presented to the general public on Thursday, IPN reports.

The Urban Sculpture Camp hosted by the National Museum of Romanian Literature in August-September culminated with the exhibition of works sculpted by Moldovan artists. These are the members of the Union of Fine Artists Ioan Grecu, Paraschiva Popa-Donoi, Gheorghe Urechi, Petru Glavan, and Alexei Vidrașco.

According to the Ministry of Culture, this initiative marks the debut of the “Creative Residence”, a platform dedicated to the development of the creative sector in Moldova, which aims to transform the Museum’s unused spaces into a dynamic hub for artistic expression, cooperation and innovation. Minister Sergiu Prodan said that the unique experience should be borrowed.

The fact that the development partners provide financial support for the organization of such a camp and the fact that the Ministry of Culture allocates resources from public funds are just a call to our communities across the country to learn from this experience. The idea is to urge local public authorities, when they have funding for urban or territorial development projects, not to improvise, but to turn to our specialists and artists,” said Minister Prodan. He noted that the courtyard of the Museum of Literature is thus transformed into a cultural-creative residence, which combines sculpture with writing and literature, attracting international visitors and tourists.

National Museum of Romanian Literature director Maria Shlyahtitski said that this is the first activity at the Creative Residence that is now under repair. “We had the opportunity to meet some wonderful sculptors, who left us important works for decorating the space of the National Museum of Romanian Literature,” she stated.

The “Creative Residence” is an activity included in the Memorandum of Understanding between the Ministry of Culture, the Future Technologies Activity, funded by USAID, Sweden and the UK, and the Rural Competitiveness and Resilience Activity, funded by USAID.
