Following the events that rocked the Republic of Turkey on the night of July 16, the border crossing points on the Bulgarian-Turkish border Kapitan Andreevo, Malko Tarnovo and Lesovo were closed on the part of Turkey, IPN reports.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs and European Integration reiterated its call for the Moldovan citizens who are in Turkey to be vigilant and stay indoors, to avoid public places, to monitor the situation through the available media outlets and to take all the necessary measures to increase personal safety.

Moldova’s Embassy in Ankara and the Consulate General in Istanbul are permanently in touch with the Turkish authorities, the administration of the airports in Istanbul, Antalya and Ankara and with persons who contacted them to find out details about the situation, and will provide the necessary support.

An attempted coup took place in Turkey after military chiefs tried to take control of the country. Gunfire was reported in the Turkish capital Ankara and in Istanbul. At least 60 people died and over 140 persons were hurt during clashes, with more than 1,500 members of the armed forces being arrested by the Turkish authorities.
