Update 2: The number of persons arrested after the searches performed at the Chisinau City Hall in the morning of February 22 rose to 12. Officers of the National Anticorruption Center arrested another four persons. These are the head of the Chisinau Authorizations and Discipline in Constructions Division, an employee of the Customs Service, an employee of the Public Amenities Division and one more person.
Update 1: Four more persons were arrested as a result of the searches at the Chisinau City Hall. These include a specialist of the Authorizations and Discipline in Constructions Division, the director of a construction company, an employee of an oil company and a private individual. There were arrested eight persons overall.
Seventeen persons are investigated as suspects following the searches performed by officers of the National Anticorruption Center at the Chisinau City Hall this morning, February 22. According to the Center, two employees of the City Hall are suspected of passive corruption, while another 15 persons, who include civil servants, representatives of economic entities and private individuals, are suspected of active corruption, IPN reports.
A part of the searches were completed. Among the four persons who were placed under arrest for 72 hours are the directors of two Chisinau firms, the chief architect of Buiucani district and a private individual.
The deputy mayor of Chisinau Nistor Grozavu told the press that not much is known about these cases, but they could refer to absence of documents or inappropriate documents concerning the final receipt of constructions, which can be a long-lasting process.
Eighteen searches have been carried out at the Chisinau City Hall within 35 criminal cases concerning passive and active corruption in the morning of February 22. The cases involve employees of the City Hall, representatives of other local public authorities and of economic entities who are suspected of giving and taking bribe for hastening actions to accept constructions as suitable.
