Private individuals can take up to five pieces of jewelry made of precious metals and stones into or out of the Republic of Moldova, regardless of their value, without paying import duties. The condition is for the jewels not to be homogenous. Also, the jewels brought into the country should not be intended for sale or production and should be declared by paying import duties, IPN reports, with reference to the Customs Service, which disseminated the information in connection with the increase in the number of attempts to smuggle articles made of precious metals.
Also, private individuals can take out of Moldova jewelry made of precious metals and stones, which were produced by authorized business entities, whose customs value does not exceed €10,000 and that are not intended for sale or production. The condition is to declare these and to pay export duties. If these items are worth over €10,000, a permit issued by the Ministry of Finance and the Ministry of Culture should be presented in the customs post to confirm their cost and the fact that they do not have a cultural value.
At the same time, jewels made of precious metals and stones (including those send by international delivery services or unaccompanied baggage) , which were produced by authorized business entities and are intended for sale or production and whose value is higher than €100,000, can be taken out of Moldova by obeying the economic policy measures, paying export duties and declaring them.
Customs functionaries so far this year thwarted 17 attempts to smuggle articles made of precious metals.
