The high temperatures that have settled over Moldova in September are influenced by dry and warm air masses coming from North Africa. The monthly average is 4 degrees above the norm, IPN learned from Tatiana Stamatova, chief forecaster at the Hydrometeorological Service.

Comparable temperatures were observed in September 1994, 2015 and 2020. The warmest September was in 2020, when temperatures were 5 degrees above the average.

Meanwhile, the current end of September has been the warmest in the past 30 years, with temperatures rising 6 degrees above the norm.

According to Tatiana Stamatova, temperatures will remain high until the very end of the month, before returning to normal on Sunday. However, European forecasters expect an unseasonably warm October as well.

Until September 30, Chisinau will have temperatures of 27-28 degrees Celsius during the day, with 13 degrees Celsius during the night. In the south of the country, highs will hover around 30 degrees mark.
