Unsafe food products of 7m lei withdraw from sale

Inspectors of the Consumer Protection Agency in January-June examined food products to the value of over 248 million lei and identified unsafe products of 7.1 million lei. These products were withdrawn from sale, IPN reports.

According to the Agency, there were found unsafe alcoholic beverages, of 3 million lei, as well as inappropriate industrial products, oil products and drugs. Of the imported goods of 69.8 million lei, products of 6.1 million lei turned out to be unacceptable.

|There were identified such violations as the non-posting of information for consumers in visible places (202 cases), sale of unmarked/inappropriately marked products, without information in the official language (251 cases), and non-issuing of sales slips/absence of price tags (222 cases). In 61 cases, 435 consignments of food products of 147,000 lei had the use-by date expired.

The companies and responsible persons were issued with prescriptions to remove the identified irregularities or stop the incorrect commercial practices. The Consumer Protection Agency represented the economic interests of consumers in 58 court hearings.
