Members of the public association UNIREA - ODIP said the November 19 local referendum to dismiss the mayor general of Chisinau municipality is aimed at demoralizing the Romanian spirit and at manipulating the inhabitants of Chisinau and denigrates national dignity. In a news conference at IPN on November 17, representatives of the association called again on the citizens of the capital city not to take part in the plebiscite.

Unirea - ODIP coordinator Radu Paslari said that on November 19 the capital city will be subject to an unjustified test. The referendum organized on the initiative of the Party of Socialists is a challenge designed to subdue the second Romanian heart – Chisinau city. “This test is intended for us, the new generation, and also for our precursors. We, those who have the national conscience awake, will not play the dirty game of the PSRM, which wants our Russification,” he stated.

“If you are a patriot, don’t go to vote!” urged the coordinator of Unirea - ODIP.

Ionel Etcu, volunteer of Unirea - ODIP, said the money allocated for holding the referendum could have been used to stage social activities for the benefit of the residents of Chisinau. “Chisinau has never been pro-Russia. It has always been pro-EU and thus those of the left want to conquer it and to make the people hate the national Romanian values and the European values,” stated the volunteer.

Volunteer Rima Konovalov addressed the Russian speakers, saying the referendum will not solve the real problems of the citizens of Chisinau, while the City Hall risks being politicized.

At the start of this month, the public association UNIREA – ODIP and the Unionist Movement “People’s Council II” also called on the inhabitants of Chisinau not to take part in the local referendum on the dismissal of Dorin Chirtoaca from the post of mayor general of Chisinau municipality. The two unionist organizations said the announced plebiscite is an event by which the Socialists aim to conquer Chisinau and o sell it to the Russian Federation.
