Unionist war veterans call upon the citizens to take part in the Great Centenary Assembly that will be staged in the Great National Assembly Square in Chisinau on March 25. In a news conference at IPN, representatives of the public association “Credinta Patriei” (“Faith to the Motherland”) launched a declaration that they called Declaration of Union, by which they express their joy to celebrate, together with the Romanians everywhere, the centenary of the great union of 1918 and the adherence to the national and democratic values of the Romanian cultural space.
“In the name of Moldovan soldiers who defended our homeland against terrorism in the Nistru war of 1992, being with our soul near the Romanian nation to which we belong, we declare our wish to see the eastern Moldova united once and for all with the motherland Romania. We, veterans of the Nistru war, consider the union necessary as moral reparation for the loss of 279 lives 26 years ago and the injuring of another over 1,200 Moldovan voluntary service members who fought against armed bands of terrorists who threatened to capture our homeland and to keep our whole nation hostage in the epoch of Stalinist darkness,” said veteran Alexandru Morarescu, reading the declaration.
“We want to unite with those who have the same language and traditions as we do so that our children and grandchildren enjoy freedom and prosperity in the future and also chances of accomplishment that our generations didn’t have,” reads the declaration.
“Credinta Patriei” chairman Gennady Cosovan said the veterans who will attend the March 25 event will also ensure public order and will hamper any possible provocation. “We call on all the comrades in arms to come to the Great National Assembly Square on March 25 to show that as in 1918, the officers and soldiers are near those who want the union,” he stated.
“Today, we have to only reconfirm our option – the reunification of the country – as we will find refuge from all the dangers that threaten us today only in such a county. I call upon the veterans of the Nistru war to come to the center of Chisinau on March 25 to celebrate to centenary of Bessarabia’s union with Romania,” said Colonel Ion Savin.
The event in the Great National Assembly Square was set to start at midday.
