The leader of the unionist civic organization Unirea – ODIP Vlad Biletski announced that he will run in the parliamentary elections of February 24, 2019 on the Liberal Party’s list of candidates for the national constituency. He will also run in single-member constituency No. 26 Centru, Buicani. Currently, the initiative group is collecting signatures in support of him.
In a news conference at IPN, Vlad Biletski said he decided to become involved in the election campaign because the unionists are an important part of society, who yet risk not being resented in the future legislative body owing to the withdrawal of a number of unionist parties from the election campaign. The unionist forces didn’t manage to fully achieve their objectives as they every time had to concede for different reasons, such as the salvation of the European course or for the so-called “common wellbeing”.
Vlad Biletski noted the Liberal Party was the party that accepted him on its list even if he is not a member of this party. He will continue to remain politically unaffiliated.
“My personal objective is to continue to struggle for the national cause, for its promotion through all the possible legal instruments, including political ones, such as the legislative initiatives, applications to the Constitutional Court for accomplishing the unionist cause. In the current political conditions, we should forget about vainglory and frustrations of the part and should realize that we can have more unionists, young upright people who will struggle for the national cause of reunifying the Romanian nation in the future Parliament only if we are united,” stated the activist.
In the same news conference, the president of the Liberal Party Dorin Chirtoacă said the unionists in time made sacrifices to save the European course. Nevertheless, these forces were oppressed. The union is needed as it offers the certainty of better living conditions, higher pensions and salaries for all the citizens.
“Beyond the Prut, the salaries and pensions are equal to €500 and up and Romania’s GDP is five times higher than that of the Republic of Moldova. Romania has long ago offered what the political parties promise now to do in the future. We need 50 years to catch up with Romania and this means two or three sacrificed generations,” stated Dorin Chirtoacă.
