Bessarabia’s union with Romania will be effected only with the support of the street. Also, a separate role in the unification process will be played by the people of culture, said invitees of the program “Emphasis on today” produced by TVR Moldova channel, IPN reports.
Director of the Institute of Philology of the Academy of Sciences of Moldova Vasile Bahnaru said no political party in Moldova has culture and the national identity as priorities in their programs. The citizens should be taught what the national identity is and what language they speak from kindergarten. “Bessarabia’s union with Romania will be effected only with the support of the street. The street is the force that makes the MPs adopt particular document,” stated Vasile Bahnaru.
Dramatist Dumitru Crudu said that in the process of looking for the national identity, no popular enthusiasm can exist without a cultural nucleus. “The culture and the cult people who do things consciously and will struggle for a cause till the end should be placed in the center of the enthusiasm,” noted the writer.
Secretary of state at the Ministry for Romanians Everywhere of Romania Veaceslav Saramet said an increasing number of cultural events involving people from both sides of the Prut have been staged during the past few years. As regards the 100th anniversary of the union, the Ministry initiated a memorandum to organize the campaign “Centenary by Union”. “It is a campaign by which, supported by the Government, the local public authorities and local councils from the two sides of the Prut will unite during the centennial year so that, besides the efforts we make in the Government, besides those made by the cultural institutions and academic community, there is also that effort at the local level,” stated Veaceslav Saramet.
