The Union Council that consists of a number of NGOs and political organizations expressed its concerns about the political situation in Moldova and called on the head of state, by an open letter, to identify a technocratic candidate for premiership, IPN reports.
Anatol Caraman, chairman of the Association of Independence War Veterans “Tiras-Tighina” that forms part of the Union Council, told a news conference that the Alliance for European Integration broke up only two years after it was formed because of the mafia, corruption, narrow party interests and oligarchization. Moldova needs an executive headed by a personality who would cope with all the challenges. “A technocratic Cabinet headed by a pro-European leader would contribute to an objective dialogue between the parties of the alliance, would reduce the influence of the party leaders on the Government’s policies and would prevent the components of the AEI from illegally using the administrative resources in the future elections,” stated Anatol Caraman.
In the same news conference, the head of the National Liberal Party Vitalia Pavlichenko said that Moldova’s Premier must be technocratic, with responsibilities that would enable to temper the rivalries between the leaders of the AEI parties. It will be good if he has unionist ideas.
The Government of Moldova was given a vote of no confidence on March 5. President Nicolae Timofti held consultations with the parliamentary factions and is to put forward a candidate for the post of Prime Minister. The legislation does not stipulate a timeframe by which he must do it.
