It’s fixed. The unification march will take place on Sunday, September 16, as initially scheduled, while the Ethnicities’ Festival will take place on Saturday, September 15. Mayor Dorin Chirtoaca admitted it was an unpleasant situation, as several events overlapped and there was some hysteria about the announced actions. The Municipality asked the Civic Platform “Action 2012” to postpone the march unitl another day so that the Ethnicities’ Festival took place on the traditional day as every year, but the call wasn’t heard, said the Mayor, Info-Prim Neo reports. The Civic Platform “Action 2012” announced on July 31 that it would organize a march on September 16, ignoring that the Ethnicities’ Festival was scheduled for the same date, in the same place. Meanwhile, the opponents of the march said they would organize a counter-demonstration regardless of the date of the march. “Nobody even considered forbidding public manifestations in Chisinau. We want to organize things properly. If we found no understanding from one side, we found it from the other side. Ethnic minorities agreed to reschedule the event for September 15 so that it didn’t overlap with other demonstrations”, stated Mayor Dorin Chirtoaca. The Municipality established different routes so that the unionists and the counter-demonstrators didn’t meet. The former will march from 2 PM until 8 PM on the route: the Academy of Sciences, Stefan cel Mare Avenue, Ismail Avenue, A. Mateevici St, A. Crihan St and the Summer Theater. Counter-protesters declined the place proposed by the Municipality and namely the Unions’ Palace square in Rascani district. Tomorrow, September 13, a final decision will be taken in this regard.
