All the schools in the Republic of Moldova will receive disinfectants and hygiene products offered by UNICEF with financial support from USAID, IPN reports.

In a press release, UNICEF said a total of over 2,600 education institutions with almost 23,000 classes and kindergarten groups will benefit from these products that will satisfy the needs during a three-month period. The hygiene products will be delivered in two installments. About one third of the entire quantity will reach the schools and kindergartens by August 28, while the rest by the end of September.

UNICEF Moldova Country Representative Desiree Jongsma said the priority of UNICEF is to make sure that each child has access to high-quality education. “During the COVID-19 pandemic, limiting the children’s exposure to the virus and ensuring that the school is a safe environment are of major importance,” stated Desiree Jongsma.

By now, representatives of 31 local education bodies have received the disinfectants and hygiene products. Until August 28, basic hygiene products and disinfectants will be distributed to all the district education divisions.

The donation is made under the ‘Prevention and Response to COVID-19’ Program, which is funded by the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) and implemented by UNICEF Moldova. The project is part of the USD 2.2 million assistance provided by the US Government, through USAID, to stop the spread of COVID-19 in Moldova.
