The United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF) in concert with the Ministry of Education and Youth started to distribute financial assistance to children from families affected by the 2008 floods, UNICEF says in a communiqué, quoted by Info-Prim Neo.
A number of 773 children from Briceni, Ungheni, Soroca, Rascani, Ocnita, Anenii Noi, Stefan Voda and Rezina districts will receive by $50 each to prepare for the school year. The money will be distributed by August 28.
Last year, UNICEF provided by $50 to 324 children from the Transnistrian region affected by natural disasters. Besides money for education, the project envisions the repair of three schools in zones affected by floods.
The “Money for Education” project is implemented by UNICEF in partnership with the Ministry of Education and Youth and the local public authorities of the districts hit by floods last August. The total cost of the project is 150,000 euros. The money was offered by the Austrian Development Agency.
