Ungheni town was designated the Youth Capital 2011 as it met practically all the selection criteria and offered the largest budget for carrying out activities involving young people. Three towns - Ungheni, Cahul, and Lipcani – and a village of Sangerei district applied for the title of the Youth Capital 2011. “The projects dedicated to the youth that were presented by Ungheni had a more comprehensive impact. The partnership with the young people in this town is more consolidated,” Eduard Mihailas, a representative of the National Youth Council in the selection commission, stated for Info-Prim Neo. Eduard Mihailas said there was stiff competition between Ungheni and Cahul, but the first town emerged victorious. Ungheni in 2011will allocate 1.5 million lei for organizing activities that will involve young persons. The Youth Capital Project was launched this year by the Ministry of Youth and Sport and the National Youth Council in partnership with the UN in Moldova. It is based on the experience of the European Youth Forum.
