Several demographic analysis and research activities will be undertaken until 2020, such as collection of population data and development of demographically efficient policy scenarios. A cooperation agreement to implement the “Generations and Gender” Program in Moldova has been signed between Health, Labor, and Social Protection Minister Svetlana Cebotari and United Nations Population Fund representative Rita Columbia, IPN reports.

According to a press release from UNFPA, the “Generations and Gender” survey will have a sample of 10,000 persons. It will approach changes in family structures, inter-generational relationships, desired number of children, and barriers that influence couples’ decision with regards to having children.

Quality data collection is essential in understanding better current family structures and barriers that couples face in planning and rearing the desired number of children. UNFPA Moldova will provide technical assistance and expertise during this large-scale study,” stated Rita Columbia, UNFPA representative to Moldova.

“The results of this study will steer us towards the most efficient policies, which would address population numbers and dynamics, taking into account citizens’ socio-economic and family states,” said Minister Svetlana Cebotari.

The “Generations and Gender” Program has been implemented in 24 countries and is a global monitoring instrument that studies demographic changes in low fertility rates, family structure, inter-generational relations, and others. The study is conducted every three years, for nine years.
