Two experts of the United Nations Education, Science and Culture Organization (UNESCO) are in Chisinau to assess the importance of the Orheiul Vechi nature and culture reserve. Pierre Galland and Luisa de Marco will check the correspondence of the data from the documents for including the complex in the World Heritage List, under the aegis of UNESCO, cultural landscape category.
At a news conference on November 10, Pierre Galland said that he does not know what chances Moldova has, but understands that this museum complex is of a major importance.
“It is very important for us that the Orheiul Vechi reserve be accepted as monument protected by UNESCO,” said Sergiu Ciocanu, senior scientific adviser of the Academy of Sciences of Moldova. “When the website of Orheiul Vechi is created, Moldova will have greater importance in the national and international heritage,” he said.
The results regarding the website of the Orheiul Vechi nature and culture reserve will be made public in Spain in July 2009. The project is already at the second research stage.
Seven files about the Orheiul Vechi museum complex have been compiled and submitted to UNESCO during two years.
