Unemployment rate in Moldova reached 5.4%

The number of unemployed persons was of about 80,000 in the third trimester of this year. According to official statistics, this number reduced by 10,000 compared to the second trimester. Unemployment affects to a greater extent men – 61.2% and persons from urban regions – 65%, data of the National Statistics Bureau attest. Based on the research, only 2.3% from the total number of unemployed persons were engaged in education. 61.3% have a certain work experience. On average, people stay unemployed 22 months. About 42% didn’t have a job for 12 months and over 26.1% represented the youth (aged from 15 to 24). The unemployment rate (the share of unemployed persons out of the total economically active population) reached the figure of 5.4%. Significant disparities between the unemployment rate in men – 6.78% and women – 4.1%; in urban regions – 8.3% against the indicator in villages – 3.3%. Among youth (15-24) the unemployment rate represented 15%. From the viewpoint of the labor market, there are two main categories within the inactive population: persons who are discouraged and persons who left the country in order to work abroad. The share of persons discouraged in searching a work place constitutes 3.9% of the total inactive population aged 15 and above. The number of persons who are officially said to be working abroad is about 319,000 persons, equaling to 21.9% of the total inactive population aged 15 and above. 2/3 of those working abroad are men. The share of persons who left abroad from rural regions is similar.
