The construction of the underwater barrage at the Nistru Water Station was completed. SA “Apă-Canal Chsinau” said that when the barrage is put into operation, the water in the Nistru will remain at the same level during the dry periods. Owing to this barrage, the level of water near the station will rise and the Water Station will work properly, IPN reports.
The underwater barrage was built downstream from the Water Station and reduces the speed of running water so that the bumps near the station will be covered by the mud deposited near the barrage. This hydrological project will help to raise the level of water near the Water Station.
The works to clear the station‘s storage spaces of mud continue. Later, the old equipment will be replaced, including the bubbling systems, two D-800 mm valves and systems for regulating them.
The Nistru Water Station that supplies water to Chisinau was designed in 1964. The pumping station at the first stage started to be used in 1972. The station was projected to work with minimum water consumption, namely 80 cubic meters per second in winter during very dry years and 120 cubic meters per second during the vegetation period.
