Under the new government, the veterans of the Ministry of Home Affairs live harder than earlier, said the Association of Veterans and Pensioners of the Ministry’s Special Purpose Battalion. Representatives of the Association ask for an audience with the President and the minister of home affairs. If they are not heard, they could mount protests.

In a news conference at IPN, veteran Valeriu Chicu said President Maia Sandu is categorically against the war veterans and the citizens. There were tensions during the time of Plahotniuc too, but things haven’t improved. “We expected it will be better, but nothing happened,” said the veteran.

Among the Association’s demand are “to reanimate” Law No. 190 of 2003, to form a council of presidents of veterans organizations and for the State Chancellery’s Bureau for Relations with Veterans to solve the problem of new type permits for veterans.

Making common cause with the veterans, Aliona Boghiu, who presented herself as a patriot of the Republic of Moldova, said it is unacceptable to behave disrespectfully towards veterans during peaceful and democratic times. The political class since 1991 until present has committed crimes against the veterans. After the elections, the veterans hoped they will be heard, but they weren’t. The new administration did nothing to ensure a better life for them. Those who do not deliver on their promises should vacate their seats.

Veteran Iurie Noroc called on his former mates to insistently claim rights together as they fought a war and are not an ordinary clique.

As 2022 was declared the Year of Recognition for War Veterans, veteran Nicolae Besedovschi wondered what kind of recognition can be there when the law on veterans is on paper only. He called on the government to turn its face to the veterans at least now, on the 30th anniversary of the declaring of Moldova’s independence.
