The Supreme Court of Justice on April 12 upheld the decision of the first court, by which 11 members of the criminal organization “Makena” were sentenced to 175 years’ imprisonment altogether, IPN has learned from the Prosecutor General’s Office.
The case was remitted to the Supreme Court of Justice after the Chisinau Court of Appeals last April gave the culprits jail terms of 12 to 30 years. The criminal case was started at the beginning of 2010 following complaints from detainees, who said that they were blackmailed and threatened with death by a group of convicts who formed part of “Makena”.
The Supreme Court of Justice’s decision is irrevocable.
