United Nations Secretary-General Antonio Guterres begins his two-day visit to the Republic of Moldova. The official will have meetings with President Maia Sandu and Prime Minister Natalia Gavrilița and will also visit an accommodation center for Ukrainian refugees, IPN reports.

On the first day of the visit, the officials will meet at the Presidential Palace. Later, at 5:30pm, Maia Sandu and Antonio Guterres will give a joint news conference.

On May 10, between 10am and 11am, the UN Secretary-General will pay a visit to the Refugee Accommodation Center at Moldexpo, situated at 1 Ghioceilor St. He will be accompanied by the United Nations Resident Coordinator Simon Springett, Minister of Labor and Social Protection Marcel Spatari and other officials and heads of UN agencies. During this visit, Antonio Guterres will also make statements for the press.

To have access to the two events, the press is urged to get accredited.

At the end of last month, the UN Secretary-General made a visit to Moscow during which he told President Vladimir Putin that Russia attacked Ukraine, not vice versa. “We have not Ukrainian troops in the territory of the Russian Federation, but we have Russian troops in the territory of Ukraine,” he said. The UN official’s next visit was to Kyiv during which the Russian troops attacked the capital of Ukraine.
