UN Information and Documentation Center inside ULIM

The United Nations inaugurated an Information and Documentation Center inside the Moldova Free International University (ULIM) in Chisinau. UN Resident Coordinator and UNDP Resident Representative for Moldova Dafina Gercheva said the UN will make effort to contribute to strengthening the libraries’ role of creating an environment where everyone has free access to information and knowledge, IPN reports.

According to a press release of the Organization, a study of time spending supported by the UN in 2015 shows that the Moldovans allot by 17 minutes on average a day for reading, as against the EU average of 25 minutes a day.

The UN Information and Documentation Center will host debates and public lectures staged in concert with ULIM and UN. The United Nations in Moldova also supports two Information Centers in Balti, at the State University “Alecu Russo”, and in Comrat, at the Regional Public Library.

The United Nations is an international organization founded in 1945 to maintain peace and international security, to develop friendship relations between nations and to promote social progress, better living conditions and human rights. It is currently made up of 193 Member States. On March 2, Moldova will celebrate the 24h anniversary of its entry into the UN.
