UN FAO to investigate consequence of drought in Moldova

The international experts of the United Nations Food and Agriculture Organisation (UN FAO) will a pay visit to the regions which were most seriously affected by the drought in order to make an objective evaluation of the losses registered by the agricultural and food field and to a work out the report on their evaluation. Minister of Agriculture and Food Industry Anatolie Gorodenco met with the international expert of FAO, Armen Mehrabyan and discussed on the unusual crisis situation created in the agricultural and food field because of the drought and examined several possibilities to support the farmers. Gorodenco informed the international expert about the record temperature registered in our country this year, lack of rains and the consequences on the development of agriculture. At the same time, he asked the expert for support in working out an evaluation report on the registered losses, in order to be able subsequently to ask for a supplementary support for farmers from donors. The support will allow working the fields and will allow avoiding the risks next year, the minister specified. UN FAO was founded in 1945 and aims at fighting pauperisation and developing the rural field. Moldova joined FAO in 1945.
