The United Nations Organization has doubled the allocations for Moldova, UN Resident Coordinator Kaarina Immonen said in a news conference held on the occasion of the 20th anniversary of Moldova’s entry into this organization, Info-Prim Neo reports. The UN allocates funds to the country, depending on the results achieved in ensuring the observance of human rights, world peace and the development of international cooperation. Kaarina Immonen stressed that the allocations for Moldova were increased because the country made evident progress in different areas. Foreign Minister Iurie Leanca told the same news conference that Moldova’s entry into the UN represented the final stage of recognizing the country’s statehood and its membership to the international community. “We can now say with pride that our country became an important partner for the international community owing to the efficient and multifunctional cooperation with the UN and its subdivisions. I would like that we changed slightly the character of the interaction with the UN in the future ten years,” he stated. During the last two decades, Moldova joined over 280 international agreements and UN conventions. Since 2003, 69 Moldovan military men have taken part in international missions under the aegis of the UN in Liberia, Sudan, Georgia and other states. Moldova is a member of the Human Rights Council, being supported by the 175 member states. In 2007-2012, the UN allocated US$100 million to Moldova, while in 2013-2017 – a record sum of US$217.3 million. The new cooperation program - the United Nations – Moldova Partnership Framework “Towards Unity in Action” supports the priorities and development objectives of Moldova in such areas as: democratic government, justice, equality and human rights, human development and social inclusion, and others.
