The Ukrainian refugees will have access to free dialysis services offered in ambulatory and stationary conditions by providers included in the mandatory health insurance system. The costs will be covered by the International Organization for Migration (IOM) Mission in Moldova through the National Health Insurance Company (CNAM), based on a partnership agreement signed by the two institutions, IPN reports, quoting a press release of CNAM.
The budget for dialysis services for July 2022 – February 2023 was estimated at US$420,000. “CNAM has signed contracts for the provision of dialysis services all over the Republic of Moldova and the necessary support will be this way offered to persons who need such services,” said the Company’s director general Ion Dodon. Under the agreement, CNAM will regularly present reports and bills received from dialysis providers included in the mandatory health insurance system.
For his part, IOM Chief of Mission in Moldova Lars Johan Lönnback said the IOM has significant experience in responding to crisis situations based on its operational crisis management framework. “This way, in case of the Ukrainian refugees, the costly treatment, such as the costs associated with dialysis, will be covered. This will support the health sector in Moldova and will ensure prompt responses in healthcare and the continuation of treatment for some of the most vulnerable persons affected by the crisis,” stated the official.
The provisions of the partnership agreement between the IOM and CNAM are implemented in the framework of the project “Strengthening of National Capacities and Services for Ensuring Ukrainian Refugees’ Access to High-Quality Protection, Education and Health Services and Greater Socioeconomic Inclusion Opportunities”.
