The protesters in Ukraine’s Kiev were scattered by the police on the night of December 10 for the reason that the five-day period announced by the court for stopping the protests expired. Incidents couldn’t be avoided. Instigators threw tear gas at the police, IPN reports, quoting the Ukrainian agency Unian.
On its website, Unian says the police blocked access to the Independence Square. The electricity in the building of the city’s administration was disconnected and the protesters who stayed there were driven away.
The situation in Kiev is calm, but a metro station near the Maidan was closed after reports that an explosive device was placed there. A similar announcement was made on December 9, but there was found nothing.
The office of the EU Delegation in Kiev was picketed by a number of persons, who said that the chaos in Ukraine was caused by pro-European protesters who block the administrative institutions.
The protests in Ukraine started when the country’s administration decided to suspend the process of preparing for the signature of the Association Agreement with the EU. The supporters of the European integration seek the dismissal of the President and Prime Minister.
