A citizen of Ukraine was sentenced to four years in jail for violating road traffic rules and causing a road accident that resulted in the death of three persons, IPN reports.

According to the Prosecutor General’s Office, the tragedy occurred near Magdacesti village of Criuleni district on July 2 this year. The Ukrainian citizen and his female partner were returning from Ukraine by their car. The man didn’t show prudence in traffic and changed lanes, colliding head-on with a Mercedes car coming from the opposite direction.

Consequently, the driver and the passenger of the Mercedes car, who worked for the Buiucani Emergencies Service, died on the spot. The man’s partner died later in the hospital as a result of her injuries.

The Criuleni Prosecutor’s Office, which asked for six years and eight months in jail for the man, intends to challenge the judgment passed by the Criuleni District Court as too mild. The prosecutors will also insist on obliging the man to pay 8,534 lei court costs.
