The company from Ukraine that was to ensure the proper transportation of the fir tree from the Carpathian Mountains to Chisinau will refund the money spent by the municipality on the tree and on transport, acting mayor Silvia Radu announced in the December 18 meeting of officials of municipal services, IPN reports.
A special commission set up by the municipality established that the fir tree wasn’t delivered appropriately and the Ukrainian company didn’t meet the contract terms as regards the integrity of the tree. As a result, the Ukrainian company was contacted and was informed about the objections by a letter.
“The 15,000 lei we gave for the fir tree will be paid back. The 13 456 lei spent on the transportation of the tree will also be refunded. We have a letter from the company, which says that it assumes responsibility and will refund the money. We would like to get back this money as public money should be managed correctly,” stated Silvia Radu.
The fir tree from Ukraine reached Chisinau on December 2, with a delay of several days. Workers of the Green Areas Association tried to reanimate it, but Silvia Radu asked to take the seriously damaged tree away and purchased another fir tree at her own expense. This was brought from the yard of a kindergarten of Chisinau and was placed in the central square of the capital city the same day.
