Ukraine’s Regions Party supports the activity of the EU Border Assistance Mission (EUBAM). The statement was made on Friday, January 19, by the MP representing this party Leonid Kojara, during the press conference organised following a visit to the mission.
Kojara, who represents the party of the PM Victor Ianukovici, expressed his hope that the Mission’s activity would contribute to the regulation of the Transnistrian conflict.
Ian Boag, head of the European Commission’s delegation in Ukraine mentioned during the conference that the main achievement of EUBAM is the stronger collaboration between the border guard and customs services from the 2 countries.
Adriaan Jacobovits de Szeged, EU special representative to Moldova stated that the implementation of the joint statement of the prime-ministers from Chisinau and Kiev made in late 2005 on the customs regime represent an important factor for countering border contraband.
EU Border Assistance Mission started its activity on November 30, 2005, following several joint solicitations from the presidents of Moldova and Ukraine. The Mission is provided for a 2 year period. Experts from several EU member states work in EUBAM.
