Ukraine intends to resume the export of electric power to Moldova and Belarus in the second quarter of 2016. Thus, the Ukrainian electricity could reach Moldova in April or even March, IPN reports.

Ukraine also wants to start to supply power to Lithuania. The announcement was made by the Ministry of Energy of Ukraine, which was quoted by the Kiev-based news agency “Ukrinform”.

The Ukrainian authorities said the country now faces difficulties related to the cold period and thus could not resume the export of power at the beginning of the year.

Ukraine stopped the export of electricity owing to the shortage of coal, which is the main source for producing power, following the civil conflict there. The export was gradually halted in 2014 and 2015 and the country even had to import electricity from Russia last year.
