Ukraine in favor of creating climate of trust between Chisinau and Tiraspol and resuming 5+2 format talks

Ukraine is ready to continue contributing to the creation of a climate of trust between Chisinau and Tiraspol and to the resumption of the formal talks in the 5+2 format as soon as possible, Ukrainian President Victor Yanukovich said in a meeting with Moldova’s Acting President Marian Lupu in Yalta, Info-Prim Neo reports, quoting a communiqué from the presidential press service. Victor Yanukovich stressed that Ukraine has a stable position as regards the resolving of the Transnistrian dispute. He said that a solution should be identified exclusively by political methods within the talks in the 5+2 format, by observing the sovereignty and territorial integrity of Moldova and taking into account the interests of the Transnistrians. The discussion between the two heads of state also focused on the development of economic cooperation. They agreed that the joint Moldovan-Ukrainian intergovernmental commission on commercial and economic cooperation, which aims to develop the bilateral economic relations, should resume work. The Governments of the two countries were entrusted with the task of organizing a meeting of the commission in the near future. The interlocutors underlined the necessity of establishing permanent institutional contacts and extending the legal framework of the Moldovan-Ukrainian relations as well as the need for the Parliaments of Moldova and Ukraine to ratify important bilateral documents that are now being examined by the two legislative bodies.
