With over 90% of the vote records counted, the winner of the presidential runoff held in Ukraine on April 21 appears to be comedian Volodymyr Zelenskiy, IPN reports.

According to the Central Election Commission of Ukraine, Volodymyr Zelenskiy polled over 73% of the ballot, which is about 12.5 million votes. His rival, ex-President of Ukraine Petro Poroshenko gained over 24% of the vote. More than 2% of the ballots were invalidated.

The press said Volodymyr Zelenskiy in the evening of April 21 noted his first task as the President of Ukraine is to try and free the Ukrainians captured during the conflict in Eastern Ukraine. Petro Poroshenko after his defeat said he leaves the presidential office, not yet politics.

A number of 610 Ukrainians cast their ballots at the two polling stations established in Moldova. Over 71% of them voted for Volodymyr Zelenskiy.
