The Ukrainian side will react appropriately to a possible request by the unrecognized Transnistrian region to the Russian Federation to bring Russian representatives to the Moldovan-Ukrainian border crossing points on the Transnistrian segment. Such a statement was made by the head of the subcommittee on security of state information systems of the Verkhovna Rada Committee on National Security and Defense Irina Friz, IPN reports, quoting Interfax-Ucraina.

“The statement by the foreign affairs minister of the unrecognized Transnistria Igantyev about the intentions to ask Moscow to deploy its representatives to the border crossing points on the Transnistrian segment of the Moldovan border was heard and will not remain outside the attention of the Ukrainian side. In case of such an approach, we will initiate the full closing of the checkpoints on these segments. The border could be closed until the territorial integrity of Moldova is restored, if military or other kinds of representatives of the aggressor states appear near the border with Ukraine on behalf of the Transnistrian region,” stated Irina Friz.

She also said that Ukraine has the tools needed to eliminate the dangers in this regard. “It seems that our attempts to make Transnistria remove the operational group of Russian troops from its territory are not understood in Tiraspol. Time probably came for a clearer and harsher political-economic explanation so that this game of the Transnistrian administration stops,” said the Ukrainian official.

This is the reaction to Vitaly Igantyev’s statement that the intention to open joint Moldovan-Ukrainian checkpoints on the Transnistrian segment could generate the military phase of the conflict in the region. He said Tiraspol could ask the Russian Federation to ensure security on border crossing points.
