The UK will consistently support Moldova’s coming closer to the European Union and the process of enlarging the EU, British Foreign Minister William Hague said in a meeting with Minister of Foreign Affairs and European Integration Iurie Leanca, who paid a visit to London on September 6-8, Info-Prim Neo reports, quoting a communiqué from the Foreign Ministry. The two officials discussed the modernization process in Moldova, the latest internal developments and the main foreign policy objectives. William Hague enquired about the resumption of the Transnistrian conflict settlement talks in the 5+2 format and the role of the international players involved in this process. There was also discussed the stable and constructive cooperation between the two countries within international organizations and possibilities of developing the bilateral commercial-economic cooperation. The British minister welcomed Moldova’s initiative to extend the export of Moldovan products, especially of wines to the UK, and to attract British investments. While in London, the Moldovan Deputy Prime Minister had meetings with Minister for Europe David Lidington, National Security Adviser Peter Ricketts, a group of members of the British Parliament, who form part of the Parliamentary Group of Friendship with Moldova, and with representatives of academic and journalistic circles of the UK. Iurie Leanca invited his British counterpart to visit Moldova. In the roundtable meeting “Does Moldova has a future in Europe?” held at the Chatham House Royal Institute of International Affairs in London, he delivered a speech and spoke about the progress made by Moldova in the European integration process and the existing challenges.
