The British Embassy in Chisinau offers Moldova a grant of 90,000 lei for purchasing and installing ramps for wheelchair users at polling places that will be established for the November 30 parliamentary elections.
Vice president of the Central Election Commission Stefan Uratu has told IPN that 20 ramps will be bought with this grant. Initially, they intended to purchase mobile ramps, but ultimately opted for fixed ramps. In most of the settlements, the polling places are set up in schools or other state institutions and these ramps will be useful not only in elections.
Next week, the Commission will choose the settlements where the ramps will be fixed, based on the number of people in wheelchairs.
Earlier, with the financial support of UNDP, there were bought standard ballot boxes and polling booths to the value of 2 million lei. They will be delivered to Moldova in the middle of October and will be distributed to mayor’s offices, which will manage them afterward.
