About 70 orchards, at least 13 cellars and several house yards were flooded in Ucrainca village of Causeni districts. The heavy rainfall of the past few days destroyed four bridges and over 200 hectares of sunflower, pea, barley, wheat, corn and vineyards, IPN reports.
According to the General Inspectorate for Emergencies, following the recent torrential rain rescuers pumped water out of five cellars and two house yards in Ucrainca.
Contacted by IPN, mayor of Ucrainca Ion Krivoi said there were flooded two houses and a shop. One of the houses collapsed. The two houses were to be demolished after the floods of 2002 and the house owners were allocated financial resources for the purpose. The families were accommodated by relatives and the authorities are yet to decide the subsequent intervention measures.
After the rainfall of June 16 and 17, the level of water in the pond situated near Tocuz and Ucrainca villages increased significantly and the road to Ucraina was covered with mud, the access to the village being blocked. Gravel was spread on the road to ensure access to the village.
