The Centrist Union of Moldova (UCM) will not take part in the November 28 early parliamentary elections, the party’s leader Mihai Petrache announced in a news conference, Info-Prim Neo reports. Mihai Petrache said the party carried out discussions on creating a bloc with most of the extra-parliamentary parties so as to become a real force in the legislative elections, but no agreement was reached. The USM leader believes that the largest part of these parties and some of the parliamentary parties have slim chances of entering the future legislative body. After examining the sociopolitical and economic situation in the country, the relations between the political parties and the people’s attitude towards the political organizations and elections, the USM National Council decided not to run in elections, Mihai Petrache said. According to a statement issued by the party on October 23, the UCM’s priorities include the organization and holding of the fourth ordinary congress of the party in October 2010 – January 2011 and preparation of the local organizations for the general local elections of 2011. The UCM National Council urges the members and sympathizers of the party and all the people of Moldova to show maturity and responsibility and fulfill their political, civic and moral obligation to vote in elections. Mihai Petrache is sure that only the people can put an end to the endless elections by ensuring a majority in the future Parliament so that it elects the head of state. In the previous elections, the UCM polled 2.75% of the vote.
