“The Republic of Moldova is experiencing a very difficult, harsh situation, but we want to warn about the importance of continuing the reform path. Definitely, the solving of this epidemiological crisis is based on strengthening of democracy, which is a basis for the development of the economy of the Republic of Moldova. Therefore, we must take care of the epidemiological situation in the country and simultaneously take care of the heath of democracy in the country,” Ambassador of the United States in Chisinau Dereck J. Hogan said in the program “Black Box” on TV8 channel.
The ambassador said the epidemiological figures in the Republic of Moldova are worrisome, but he is hopeful that the authorities will do their best to take the situation under control.
“Many countries are in a very difficult situation owing to the spread of the coronavirus. Here, I see that the country’s administration is trying to maintain a balance between the fight against the coronavirus and the solving of economic problems. It is very hard to find this exact balance,” stated the diplomat.
Asked who is to blame for the large number of persons infected with COVID-19, the official said that both the authorities and the citizens are the key factor in this crisis.
“I believe both of the sides play a key role in fighting the epidemiological crisis. On the one hand, the citizens of the Republic of Moldova should make every effort to respect the precautionary measures. On the other hand, the Government is responsible for doing everything possible to communicate the necessary measures and to cope with this epidemiological crisis. Both of the sides should work together,” stated Dereck J. Hogan.
