A boy aged two died when he fell from the fifth floor of an apartment building in Briceni town on June 23. The child remained without supervision for a moment and went to the balcony, where he fell out.
Press office of the Briceni Police Inspectorate Aliona Bulgari has told IPN that the tragedy happened at about 6:30pm. The boy died in the hospital as a result of the sustained injuries. He was at home together with his mother. This was the only child of the family. An investigation is under way.
At least five cases of children falling from height were recorded between May and August last year. Three of the cases had a fatal ending. At the beginning of this month, a child aged two died when he fell from the ninth floor of an apartment building in Chisinau. Doctors warn that such tragedies happen mainly in the warm period, when the children, left unsupervised, climb the windowsill and, leaning against insect screens, fall out.
Specialists recommend blocking access to windows and balconies and even keeping the windows closed with special mechanisms. More pieces of advice on how to avoid falls from height can be found out in this video clip.
