Ala Condrea, head of the Emergency Admission Section of the Balti Municipal Hospital, has told IPN that the boy was taken to the hospital in a serious condition and was transported to the Mother and Child Center in Chisinau for treatment the same evening.

According to the doctor, the electrical meat grinder damaged partially the boy’s hand, including several fingers. Consequently, he will undergo long treatment.

Ala Condrea said the incident happened in the kitchen. The child’s mother turned on the meat grinder to chop some meat and went out for several minutes. The boy, being unsupervised, put his hand into the machine.

The doctor called on the parents to be more attentive when using electrical appliances and other dangerous objects when children are nearby and to never leave the kids unsupervised in order to avoid tragic incidents. She recommended taking the child with oneself when somebody rings the door, the telephone rings or somebody is called out. The house is a place with many dangers to children.
